…a great way to stay on top of the dynamic field of Opticianry and make some friends in the process.
Registered Opticians Association of Texas site
This organization has got it right. Education is the key to success. They understand that any legislative action has to have some qualification to be enacted. By creating the classification of “Registered Optician,” they created a way for the public to identify who they are. Opticians who register have to register with the state, but it is not a requirement to do so. Remember that TX is not a licensed state. Faced with being legislated out of existence, a group of TX opticians formed a society to increase scope of practice and to effectively legitimize opticianry in TX. The TX model may serve in other unlicensed states as well. Affiliate membership is just $30 and can go a long way in furthering TX opticians and hopefully licensure may be on the horizon. One never knows where the tipping point is. It’s been a while since that has happened…would be nice.
