…a great way to stay on top of the dynamic field of Opticianry and make some friends in the process.
The EyeWiki is an idea I had after The Eyescribe mentioned that he/she would like to start on an Optometry Wiki. I’ve been thinking about an Opticianry related one for a while and figured why not be all inclusive and simply call it the EyeWiki. I’m sure some of you are probably curious what a wiki is. A wiki is a collection of web pages created and editable by anyone. If there is one thing I have learned in my studies in computer science is that the power of many hands typing can do miraculous things. One example of this is Seti @ Home which aims to use your computer’s down time to create the largest distributed program on the planet. One of the most famous wikis is Wikipedia. Wikipedia is one of the most amazing online encyclopedias I’ve ever seen. It’s free, which fits right into my budget, but more importantly ties into the idea that information should be accessible to anyone. Despite wiki vandalism, Wikipedia still manages to remian accurate and somewhat timely. An EyeWiki can create a sense of community and professionalism among all of the eye related health care professionals. Just a thought.
