…a great way to stay on top of the dynamic field of Opticianry and make some friends in the process.
I’ve just added an induced prism utility to help figure out how much prism is induced in a pair of glasses if decentered incorrectly (It’s also in the Optical Tools section called “Oops The Optician.” I would still like to add a few more things to it, like an ANSI and NJ standard test that detects what the spectacles fail. So, how do you use it? Fill the form as best you can. You don’t have to fill in everything. You must select something from the radio button options (i.e. Twice the Needed Decentration, Opposite Decentration, Twice the Opposite decentration, Without Decentration, Other) or you will get a Null Pointer Error, which means you didn’t select one of the radio button options and have a hard time following directions
just kidding. I do forget to as well when I want to insert my own values. If you select other, make sure you put how much decentration in or out you like (positive numbers indicate decentered in, and negative numbers decenter out). This one was a doosy to figure out. As a rule, I default to the strongest lens. It’s a good rule, in my opinion, because you will always remember to check prism in a lensometer that way. In many cases there is more than one answer, BU in the right is the same as BD in the left theoretically speaking. I only give one answer and anticipate that you should know the variants. Let me know what you guys think. I’m going to work on a sagitta and the sag approximate formula next. Maybe even tomorrrow.
