…a great way to stay on top of the dynamic field of Opticianry and make some friends in the process.
I just joined the Contact Lens Society of America (CLSA). I recieved the standard welcome letter and 2 magazines. The magazines are called Eye Witness. It’s very good. It’s done every quarter so you only get 4 a year
. You also get a directory of doctors and contact lens fitters. As I said, the magazine is great! One of the articles called “From a Grain of Sand! The Development of Silicone Hydrogels” by Vickie S. Portis offers a great review of the new silicone hydrogel contacts like Ciba Vision’s Focus Night & Day and O2Optix (lotrafilcon B), Vistakon’s Acuvue Advance (Galyfilcon A) and last, but not least, Bausch & Lomb Purevision (balafilcon A). A new one, not covered is Vistakon’s Acuvue Oasys. The article offers a nice comparison of Dk/t values and H2O for each of these lenses as well as some conventional lenses, for comparison (except the Oasys). Overall a very good article and am happy I joined especially if such articles are the rule rather than the exception.
